Earlier this week the local user group JAXDUG posted an announcement on our news blog that we're starting a Office Development Special Interest Group (SIG) who's leadership will be shared between John Holliday and myself. The focus, as stated in the post:

The purpose of this special interest group is to bring the local SharePoint community together to share tips, tricks, ideas and best practices for developing solutions on the SharePoint platform. With the coming release of SharePoint 2007, and the many new developments surrounding the Windows SharePoint Services v3 (WSS) & Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS), there is a lot to talk about. However, it won't be limited to the next version of SharePoint; the SIG will also have a focus of the current version of SharePoint: WSS v2 & SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (SPS). In addition to informal discussion, the group will also feature speakers and experts from Microsoft, Microsoft Partners and the SharePoint developer community.

So what does this mean? While I'm sure SharePoint will be a major focus, don't think we're limited to it. We are open, and most certainly interested in any type of Microsoft Office development from the server-side (which basically means SharePoint with the pending release of WSS v3 & MOSS 2007) to the client such as VSTO based projects. I'm particularly eager to see how much community interest there is in the greater Jacksonville, FL area for SharePoint.

Office Dev SIG Meeting Time & Logistics:
This SIG will meet on the fourth Thursday of every month in downtown Jacksonville at the Modis Building (2nd floor; Conference Room A) from 6p-8p. If you have ideas, comments, suggestions, or want to volunteer to speak, feel free to email us at officedevsig@jaxdug.com.

Parking is available on the downtown streets (metered), across the street in the Landing lot, or directly behind the Module building in a 9-story garage on East Bay Street.

Office Dev SIG Upcoming Schedule:
Here's the schedule for the next three meetings (note the first one is next week!):

Note: RSVP is requested by emailing officedevsig@jaxdug.com in order to order enough food.

All Comments Are Filtered & Moderated
Unfortunately comment spammers are just too effecient and are constantly dirtying up blogs with irrelevant and unwanted comments trying to improve their standing on search engines. All comments on this blog are moderated. I do not censor comments, but I don't approve comments with vulger language or those soliciting products. Most of the time comments are approved within a few hours of being submitted with the only exception when I'm traveling.

Why are you asking for my email address?
The only reason I'm asking for your email address, which isn't required to submit a comment, is to provide a gravatar if you've created an account for yourself and associated your email address with a small image. If you have a gravatar created for the email address you submit, it will appear next to your comment. Otherwise nothing will appear.

What is a gravatar?
A gravatar is a "globally recognized avatar." You can get more information about gravatars, as well as create your own for free, at www.gravatar.com. You can also view my gravatar here.
