A common complaint that a lot of people have about SharePoint v3, especially those creating Internet facing sites, is that the rendered HTML is not very accessible in the sense that it isn't friendly to the disabled to rely on screen readers or other requirements (such as 508c which we have in the US).

The Accessibility Kit for SharePoint (AKS), which I previously blogged about, has now been released as v1 on CodePlex. Please don't think of the AKS as a complete solution, rather it is a set of building blocks that can be used in your implementation and also as an example. For support, you can opt-in to a e-mail list or use a special MSDN online forum that's been setup.

# re: ***NOW AVAILABLE*** Making SharePoint Sites Accessible: Accessibility Kit for SharePoint 12/1/2007 5:52 AM Waldek Mastykarz
Some might find the shipped components very useful. Personally I've been mostly interested in the documentation that was supposed to be delivered together with AKS (as presented by Ben Robb during the TechEd Developers 2007): Guidelines and Best Practices. Rushing to get my own copy of the AKS I have installed it, dug through it a few times and... No documentation found.
Another thing I've really hoped on was a control adapter for the Web Part Zone control. As the code is obfuscated and the class is sealed you can't do much about it. Among all the 25 adapters shipped with AKS no Web Part Zone.
Will BlueBand become the ultimate accessible SharePoint 2007 site baseline?...

All Comments Are Filtered & Moderated
Unfortunately comment spammers are just too effecient and are constantly dirtying up blogs with irrelivant and unwanted comments trying to improve their standing on search engines. All comments on this blog are moderated. I do not censor comments, but I don't approve comments with vulger language or those soliciting products. Most of the time comments are approved within a few hours of being submitted with the only exception when I'm traveling.

Why are you asking for my email address?
The only reason I'm asking for your email address, which isn't required to submit a comment, is to provide a gravatar if you've created an account for yourself and associated your email address with a small image. If you have a gravatar created for the email address you submit, it will appear next to your comment. Otherwise nothing will appear.

What is a gravatar?
A gravatar is a "globally recognized avatar." You can get more information about gravatars, as well as create your own for free, at www.gravatar.com. You can also view my gravatar here.
